There is a long history of artists and photographers making self-portraits. You might think doing this is vanity or that everyone takes selfies now. I have done this a few times and found that there is more to it than meets the eye. It seems to have an extra expectation when you spend all your days making images. Are you happy with the images you have of yourself?
Photographed a few weeks ago and now shown without a hat, @walrustears (on instagram) is pictured.
This picture was originally taken more than a year ago and the baby, at that stage still to be born, is happy and healthy. The full shot can be seen in the portrait section. Originally I didn’t add a textured background, but having found a number recently and photographed them with my phone, I was inspired to make use of them.
I feel very pleased with this picture. Currently I am waiting to take some portraits as restrictions are lifted in England. These could well be posted here. Meanwhile I am keeping my photographic senses in operation with a still life. I have been keeping the bottle and jar for a while now. Today I suddenly thought piece of card, grey background and those glass items. I really like the colours and the very shallow depth of field. If you feel so inclined let me know what you think below.
So this abstract work is now the cover for the first single, Amaryllis, released today by Sam Thompson . Very pleased to have been asked to do this by @samjsthompson. Visit his account and listen and give him some likes!
‘Amaryllis’ - the first single from his upcoming EP ‘As Now the Light Retreats’ is out today on all the streaming platforms - link in his bio and there’s a little clip if you swipe right.
